UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) syllabus for the Civil Services Examination (CSE):
The Civil Services Examination is conducted in three stages: Preliminary Examination (Prelims), Main Examination (Mains), and Personality Test (Interview). The syllabus for each stage is as follows:
1. Preliminary Examination (Prelims):
Paper 1: General Studies
- Current events of national and international importance
- History of India and the Indian National Movement
- Indian and World Geography
- Indian Polity and Governance
- Economic and Social Development
- Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change
- General Science
Paper 2: Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT)
- Comprehension
- Interpersonal skills including communication skills
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability
- Decision-making and problem-solving
- General mental ability
- Basic numeracy and data interpretation
- English language comprehension skills
2. Main Examination (Mains):
The Main Examination consists of 9 papers, out of which 7 are considered for the final ranking. The papers are as follows:
Paper A: Indian Language (qualifying paper)
- Candidates can choose one of the languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Paper B: English (qualifying paper)
Paper 1: Essay
- Candidates have to write two essays on given topics.

- Indian Heritage and Culture
- History and Geography of the World and Society
Paper 3: General Studies 2
- Governance
- Constitution
- Polity
- Social Justice
- International relations
Paper 4: General Studies 3
- Technology
- Economic Development

Paper 6 & 7: Optional Subject (Candidates can choose one subject from the list of optional subjects provided by the UPSC)
3. Personality Test (Interview):
The Personality Test assesses the candidate’s suitability for a career in the civil services and tests their mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgment, variety, and depth of interest, leadership skills, and intellectual and moral integrity.

- Indian Polity & Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.

CSAT Paper-II UPSC Prelims Syllabus 2023

Overview of the UPSC Syllabus 2023
UPSC Curriculum 2023: Describes the most recent IAS curriculum prior to taking the IAS Exam. Candidates must review the UPSC Syllabus 2023 and focus on each topic that will be tested in order to pass the UPSC CSE Exam. The UPSC IAS Syllabus 2023 includes two papers for the Prelims exam: General Studies and CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test).
UPSC Syllabus 2023: The UPSC conducts IAS, IFS, and IPS exams in three stages. The UPSC Prelims Exam selects candidates for the Main Exam, which consists of nine descriptive papers. After passing the Mains Exam, candidates will be summoned for a UPSC Personality Test. To pass all rounds of the UPSC Exam, candidates must be well aware with the UPSC Syllabus 2023.
