North Carolina State Board of Education wants legislators to allow a multi-year pilot teacher licensure program

WRAL-TV reported that the board Voted on THUR to allow Lawmakers to them to Test a program in several public school Districts 

The legislature would need to approve funding & discount for teachers to participate

The legislature is starting to prepare the state government budget for the next 2 years

Under the Proposed Licensing Plan, Teachers Could move to More Advanced licenses

Proportionate pay increases by proving their effectiveness through performance reviews that can be based on student test scores

Current base Teacher salary schedule ranges from $37,000 to $54,000

At the top of the pay ladder is 25 years of experience

A tiered license system envisages a minimum salary of $56,000 for “specialist teachers.”

Board voted separately on Thursday to ask lawmakers to pass a 10% teacher pay raise for all teachers next year

Board members said the higher teacher pay isn't just about offering salaries to compete with the district in nearby states that could drive Teachers away

Chairman Eric Davis said it's also about providing wages to compete with Private Businesses
